Description

Following the Norman conquest of Wales, during which Welsh bowmen caused heavy casualties to the invaders, kings of England increasingly used longbowmen, including Welsh longbowmen, in their armies. This reached its peak during the Hundred Years’ War, when the use of massed longbows was highly effective against the French, particularly at the start of the war in the battles of Crécy (1346) and Poitiers (1356), and most famously at the Battle of Agincourt (1415).
