Description

One of Rome’s greatest generals, Corbulo preserved Roman supremacy in Germania and in the East. In his campaigns against the German tribes, he brought Triremes ships up the Rhine River in defeat of the invading Chauci at the Battle of the Rhine. When Nero searched for an officer to salvage Roman policy in Armenia in 54AD, he turned to Corbulo.
Corbulo went on to repeat his campaigns as he had in Germania. His legions, relentlessly and mercilessly drilled and beaten into shape, resulted in reformed troops who
defeated the Parthians and recovered Armenia. Corbulo went on to militarily besiege the Armenian pro-Parthian client states of Iberia, Cappadocia and Commagene, pacifying the entire Armenian region.
Corbulo was eventually awarded power over all of Syria and Armenia and the client states. Plots against Nero were common. When Annius Vinicianus began his plot to unseat Nero, Corbulo was implicated since Vinicianus was his son-in-law. Further as the foremost military figure of his time, Corbulo’s name invariably surfaced as Nero’s successor.
Corbulo received from Nero an imperial edict to commit suicide. He, sadly, complied ending a brilliant career.
