22nd Legion - Deiotariana

Formed in 47 BC from the remnants of two legions originally in the service of King Deiotarus of Armenia Minor, these warriors fought alongside Caesar’s forces in Egypt. While in Egypt the 22nd served under Caesar’s deputy Gnaeus Calvinus and took part in the Potus campaign. The 22nd Deiotariana Legion passed to both Antony and was subsequently retained by Octavian. The legion continued its service in the Middle East for the next century and a half until about 161 AD when its records cease. Perhaps due to its loss in the Parthian Wars.
