Anthony was the first son born to Philip III Duke of Burgundy and his mistress Jeanne de Presle in 1421. Despite the circumstances of his birth, Anthony was raised in the Burgundian court alongside his younger half-brother and heir to the Dukedom, Charles. The two brothers became remarkable warriors as well as great leaders and enjoyed a bond of trust and loyalty to one another, not always extant in positions of power of those times.
At the Battle of Montlhery in 1465, Anthony saved his brother’s life when Charles was wounded and separated from his men. Anthony became a warrior of considerable renown fighting in the many mini-wars conducted by his father “Philip the Good” as well as his brother Charles who became ‘Charles the Bold’ upon acquiring the title of Duke.
In 1476 and 1477 Anthony fought alongside Charles in their last great battle against the Swiss. At Nancy in 1477, Charles lost his life and Anthony was captured. Some years after, Anthony was legitimized by the King of France Charles VIII. Anthony died in 1504.
